COUNCILLORS have approved a £14.6million plan to move hundreds of local government jobs away from Weston.

COUNCILLORS have approved a £14.6million plan to move hundreds of local government jobs away from Weston.

At a Town Hall meeting tonight (Thurs) they voted in favour of the purchase of the former Clerical Medical building in Clevedon.

It is not yet known how many workers would move to the new offices, but as part of the plan the Weston offices of 762 workers will be closed.

The scheme has been met with outrage from Weston figures, who say it would harm town centre trade and goes against the council's plan to create more jobs in the area.

At tonight's meeting an overwhelming amount of councillors voted for the scheme.
