Council praised over financial control

FINANCES: An independent review of North Somerset’s Council’s finances has praised the authority’s performance over the past financial year.

The report by the Audit Commission
said the council has made ‘adequate arrangements’ to provide value for money.

Council leader Nigel Ashton said it was a positive report and describing the financial situation as satisfactory or adequate was not a sign of any sort of failing.

The financial watchdog’s report stated the council faces ‘severe financial challenges’ but made clear it considered the draft plans proposed would make the £47.3million worth of savings between 2011-2015 an achievable target.
