A COUNCIL is considering amending its policies to ensure there is more community involvement in the planning application process.

North Somerset Council’s executive will discuss changes to a Statement Of Community Involvement document next week.

The document lays out how the council and developers involve the community and interested parties when reviewing planning policies and applications.

The district council’s policy and scrutiny panel said there needed to be better ways of engaging parish and town councils.

The revised document clarifies that if consultation on a planning application falls over a holiday, a response time longer than six weeks will be given.

It also says that those applying for planning permission are encouraged to engage with parish and town councils.

The procedure for consulting with adjoining councils will also be reviewed.
