A REQUEST for a new bin at a village bus stop has been turned down by the council, to encourage people to 'think about' how they get rid of rubbish.

Banwell Parish Council asked North Somerset Council for a bin at the bus stop opposite the Whistling Duck pub. The request was refused.

A North Somerset Council spokesman said: “We will always consider requests for extra bins, but what we have said to the parish council is that the request needs to be justified. There is no point having bins where they are not needed.

“Removing unnecessary bins can actually improve the look of an area and of course people need to think about how they dispose of their rubbish – use a bin or take it home.”
