Highbridge Travelodge plans to be decided

Plans to build a 75-bedroom hotel in Highbridge could be given the green light next week.
Travelodge’s application to build the hotel on land off Bennett Road in Isleport Business Park will be decided by Sedgemoor District Council on Tuesday.
The four-storey hotel has been recommended for approval by planning officer Dawn De Vries, while nine letters have been sent to the council in support of the hotel.
But Burnham and Highbridge Town Council is against the plans, fearing it – and the nearby Aldi development – will take people away from town centre businesses.
Councillor John Parkes told the Mercury: “According to a report in April 2017 business customers make up half of Travelodge clients.
“Will these same customers visit Highbridge if the town continues to decline with competition from Aldi, Travelodge and maybe a fast food outlet?”
