A COUNCIL van had to be pulled to safety be rescue teams after getting stuck in the sea.

Burnham Area Rescue Boat (BARB) hoisted a Sedgemoor District Council vehicle to safety at the beach near Maddock’s Slade on Saturday after it ventured too far out and got stuck in the soft sand.

The council staff had been trying to recover the carcass of an animal washed up on the beach.

Beach lifeguards and volunteers from BARB used the charity’s tractor to tow it from the water.
