Council wants parishes to be evacuated over 'bombs'

PEOPLE across Somerset could be evacuated due to an unexploded World War Two bomb being discovered - that is the fictitious scenario Somerset County Council wants parishes to practise.
The council is looking for parishes to register their interest to trial evacuation plans for a large-scale emergency.
Somerset county councillor David Hall said: “Although rare, evacuations might be needed anywhere and at any time, so we need to be ready. The Somerset Local Authorities Civil Contingencies Partnership, which organised the day, is therefore looking to develop a countywide network of centres.
While delighted at the interest so far, we would love to see more offer their help.”
Clerks wishing to register their parishes are invited to contact Barbara Sharratt on 01823 357 180 or by email BMSharratt@somerset.gov.uk
