A fourth Syrian refugee family will be able to resettle in North Somerset, after the council agreed to a partnership with another organisation.

North Somerset Council previously agreed to find homes for three Syrian families who had fled the war-torn country.

The council decided it would keep reviewing the situation to see if it was able to take on additional households.

Two families have already been found homes in North Somerset, and a third is expected to arrive soon.

The authority’s documents say: “While it is early days, initial outcomes are promising with the families settling into North Somerset well.”

The council is, however, still struggling to find homes at the rent levels covered by housing benefit.

Christians Together In Nailsea And District has offered to work with the council to find more homes for refugee families.

The funding is provided by the Government for the first five years.
