LONG-standing councillor Glyn Duck has died after collapsing at his home in Pill.Glyn, aged 68, was tending to his plants in his garden at his home at Newsome Avenue, on Saturday evening when he suffered a heart attack.Glyn, who was chairman of North Somerset Council in 2004/5, was one of the authority's longest standing councillors, serving from 1980 to 2006 for the Easton-in-Gordano and Pill wards. He was also vice chairman of North Somerset's accident prevention and traffic sub committee in 1996/7, shadow chairman of the planning and transport committee in 2000/1 and shadow chairman of the north area planning committee in 2000/1.He also served as chairman of the north area planning committee from 2003-2006 and this year was vice chairman of the planning and regulatory committee.Glyn was also a member of the Avon Fire and Rescue Authority and campaigned for sprinklers to be fitted in all schools and public buildings.Chairman of the North Somerset Labour Party Alan Cotton said: "Glyn has, for over 20 years, dedicated himself to helping his Pill and Easton-in-Gordano constituents."Many people have benefited from his tenacious support for individual local cases."Glyn also worked hard on the wider stage with his work for the Avon Fire Service."His esteem across political boundaries was recognised by his election to chairman of North Somerset Council in 2004, a role which he accomplished with distinction. Many people will be mourning his passing."Labour group leader Cllr Muriel Kraft said: "He was a long-serving councillor who worked tirelessly for his ward and was superb at what he did."He had his idiosyncracies and was passionate about sprinklers. Without him, I doubt that sprinklers would have been fitted into The Campus Project."The whole of the town hall will be a sadder place because he is not there. He was part of the fixtures and fittings and I do not know how we will get along without him"Chairman of North Somerset Council Roz Willis said: "We are very shocked to hear of Glyn's untimely death and offer our heartfelt sympathies to his family and all his many friends at this time.
