THE FUTURE of Congresbury youth services is still in doubt despite a passionate plea for more time to come up with a funding proposal.

Last week the parish council stated its unhappiness with current plans to join forces with Backwell and Yatton. It fears that its already reduced budget would not end up going to their secondary pupils, who tend to go to Churchill Academy and Sixth Form.

After listening to parish councillors at a central area committee meeting last week, Councillor Jeremy Blatchford, executive member for youth services, said he intended to sit down and discuss options at a special meeting this week.

Councillor Tom Leimdorfer, who represents Congresbury at North Somerset Council, said he hoped the talks would present a resolution to ensure the youth club facilities currently in place would not fold.
