A swimming pool 'unrelated to the Tropicana' or a 'Center Parcs-type development' will not be coming to the seafront or anywhere else in Weston-super-Mare.

Cllr David Pasley, North Somerset Council’s executive member for finance and property, confirmed at a full council meeting on Tuesday evening there are ‘no plans’ for such ideas when asked by Cllr John Crockford-Hawley.

The council’s deputy leader Elfan Ap Rees said: “I am not aware of anything to do with a seafront pool in Weston.”

It has been almost two decades since the Tropicana was open as a swimming pool.

The Mercury reported in September calls for a seafront complex were once again dismissed by the council, with Cllr Pasley confirming the authority wants to build a second pool at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre.

He added: “There is nothing stopping private investment coming forward, and what could be better than someone doing that on Weston’s seafront?”
