Councillors refuse allowance increase

COUNCILLORS in Sedgemoor have voted not to take an increase in allowances. An independent remuneration panel recommended council members raise their allowances but they unanimously voted not to last week.

An independent remuneration panel recommended council members raise their allowances but they unanimously voted not to last week.

A spokesman for Sedgemoor District Council said: "The councillors felt they could not take the increase at this time, given the current financial climate the council finds itself in, especially when jobs and services are under threat.
