A COUPLE from Sand Bay have celebrated 60 years of marital bliss.
Elaine and Thomas Barrett, aged 79 and 82 respectively, will celebrate the landmark with a bash with family and friends on Thursday.
The couple, of Myrtle Tree Crescent, met through Mr Barrett’s sister, who was a nurse in Plymouth with his future wife.
After meeting at his sister’s house, the pair were soon married on July 5, 1952 at St Barnabas’ Church in the south coast city.
Mr Barrett, a former merchant navy serviceman and chief steward on the Pullman express train between Bristol and London Paddington, said: “I think it’s the wife that makes a marriage. The man hasn’t really got much to do.
“If the woman gets fed up then that’s it.”
