BATMAN is renowned as one of the fantasy world's most incorruptible crime-fighters - but this week Battman has been in the dock after turning criminal.

John Battman – who, aside from an extra ‘T’ shares his name with Gotham City’s caped crusader – appeared at North Somerset Courthouse charged with theft.

The 34-year-old, of Holly Close, Weston, pleaded guilty to stealing a £219 Dyson vacuum cleaner from the town’s branch of DIY chain B&Q.

Battman, who committed the offence in May, was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £100 compensation.
