A SPURNED lover bombarded his ex-girlfriend with calls and texts, followed her home and left presents in her parents' garden in order to try and win her back.

Ronald McKinner-McGuire, of Sunnyside Road in Weston, ended up in court charged with harassment because of his unwelcome advances.

North Somerset magistrates heard how the 20-year-old had been in a relationship with Kylie Tolfts for four months when she finished with him, saying he was ‘possessive and controlling’ and did not like her having male friends.

He said if she ever cheated on him or they spilt up he would kill her.

McKinner-McGuire appeared at North Somerset Courthouse in St Georges on September 29, where he pleaded guilty to harassment without violence.

Kelly Marshall prosecuting said: “The day she told him to pick up his stuff she started receiving 10 messages a day and a number of phone calls.

“He turned up at her work and three times at her parents’ house. He left teddy bears and roses in their back garden.”

On September 6 McKinner-McGuire was given a warning by police about his conduct, but three days later he began harassing Ms Tolfts again.

He saw her with a male, talking on Drive Road bridge and became a abusive towards the other man, before following his ex-girlfriend home and texting her to tell her he loved her and ‘wanted to be mates’.

Ms Tolfts says the harassment was giving her panic attacks and she was fearful he may become violent.

McKinner-McGuire pleaded guilty to the charge and admitted to magistrates he had been ‘stupid and acted like an idiot’.

He was given an 18-month community order with a supervision requirement and ordered to pay £85 costs.
