A practice manager at a doctor's surgery in Weston-super-Mare has been accused of 'abusing her position' by paying herself bonuses and overtime amounting to £32,500.
Jackie Bibby has pleaded not guilty to committing fraud between May 1, 2011 and July 31, 2015, when she was working at Clarence Park Surgery in Clarence Road East.
Bibby, aged 57, appeared at North Somerset Courthouse on Thursday, where prosecutors alleged she had paid herself money from the practice’s bank accounts.
The court heard how she was practice manager at the surgery ‘until relatively recently’.
Sam Jones, prosecuting, said a letter was received from North Somerset Council in June 2015, while Bibby was on holiday, saying the council tax had not been paid.
Mr Jones said: “As practice manager, she was responsible for suppliers, payroll and the like and in a position of some trust.
“In light of the letter, it started alarm bells ringing, and there was an investigation by the practice.
“The previous practice manager was asked to return and conduct an investigation.
“They uncovered Bibby had been abusing her position by paying herself money from bank accounts owned by the practice to which she was not entitled.”
It is alleged Bibby gained £32,500 from May 2011 to July 2015, including overtime, and a series of performance-based bonuses, and a one-off payment.
Bibby, of Fallowfield in Weston, has pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was granted unconditional bail.
Her defence did not speak during the plea hearing.
She will next appear at Bristol Crown Court on November 11 for a pre-trial hearing.
