A WORLE teenager has been ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid community work after assaulting a girl following a family feud.

Mica Mulgrue, aged 19, of Pelican Close, this week admitted to magistrates at North Somerset Courthouse that she assaulted Jesslene Taylor when the two met on Queensway on March 30.

Prosecutor Jane Cooper said the victim was walking with her boyfriend and friend when she saw Mulgrue.

She said: “The victim said she had known her for several years as there have been problems with their families for a while.

“Jesslene Taylor said Mica was on her own and said ‘what are you looking at?’ and Jesslene said ‘I’m not looking at you.’

“She said ‘Mica turned around and walked up to me and was now face to face with me. As she was very close and shouting at me I attempted to push her away. Before I could do this she grabbed my hair and pulled my head downwards.

“‘Fearing for my safety I tried to grab her hair with my right hand but did not get a good grip. Then I saw Mica raise her left leg and her knee hit my nose and I heard a cracking sound.

“‘I felt liquid coming from my nose and I began to feel dizzy. I fell to the ground and passed out.

“She was then taken to the hospital and had a swollen nose and a swollen top lip with a cut inside.”

David Playford, defending, said: “There is an indication that the incident continued with a further assault on my client where she was held by one of the witnesses.

“She has pleaded guilty to the single blow to the face. She said she was attacked first and said it was possible for her to try and escape, she did not try and was then held by one of the youths.”

Mulgrue was given a community order for a year, which includes 80 hours of unpaid work. She was also ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
