A Weston-super-Mare man has been jailed for more than three years after stabbing an old football teammate in the side.
David Purkiss, aged 30, used a craft knife while fighting with James Brown on December 28 at around 8.20pm.
Purkiss, of Locking Road, was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to wounding with intent and possessing a knife.
The defendant and Mr Brown had known each other since school age and played on the same and opposing football teams.
The pair bumped into each other outside the Domino’s, in Weston’s Boulevard, when they got into a fight.
Mr Brown said he suddenly ‘felt tight’ and his breathing was not normal.
An ambulance was called and Mr Brown was taken to Weston General Hospital where he had 12-14 stitches on his left side and three in the palm of his hand.
Purkiss was jailed for three years and seven months.
