A 21-YEAR-OLD Weston woman flew into a jealous rage and headbutted her boyfriend because she thought he was cheating on her.
Samantha Bird launched her attack at Michael Emblow as he stepped into their flat after finishing work on November 1.
Recovering drug addict Bird, of Locking Road, appeared at North Somerset Courthouse last Thursday for sentencing.
Magistrates were told that unemployed Bird accused Mr Emblow of seeing another woman and then became threatening towards him.
He grabbed her wrists and pushed her to the floor and then fled the building to a phone box to dial 999.
Kevin Withey, prosecuting, said: “She came to the phone box and headbutted him causing a cut across the bridge of his nose.
“She then punched him and then she walked away.”
Mr Withey told the court that passing policeman Sergeant Stuart Davies witnesssed the altercation.
“He saw the man being hit and pulled about by his t-shirt and continued to punch slap and kick out at him,” added Mr Withey.
“The victim didn’t retaliate but was struggling to break free and was trying to get back in the phone box.”
Sergeant Davies intervened and the 999 operator who was still on the line recorded the incident.
Mr Emblow was taken to Weston General Hospital where he needed stitches.
Ian Denley, defending, said during the altercation there was ‘violence on both parts’.
He said: “I know she was punched but she accepts when she was in the kiosk she went overboard and her behaviour was unacceptable.”
Mr Denley told magistrates that his client had a difficult ‘start to life’ as she was in and out of children’s homes and has used drugs in the past.
He added that she was now trying to kick her habit and is on a low prescription of methadone.
Bird pleaded guilty to assault by beating at an earlier hearing.
Magistrates sentenced her to a community order for 12 months, a supervision requirement for 12 months and ordered her to pay an £85 fine.
