AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into the sudden death of a man at Weston General Hospital who seemed to be recovering well

AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into the sudden death of a man at Weston General Hospital who seemed to be recovering well.Darren Law died at the hospital 11 days after his car was dramatically pulled out of a ditch on the outskirts of Weston by a farmer.Robert Parsons chained the back of the car to his tractor and dragged enough of it out of the water for emergency services to break inside and pull out Mr Law, who had been submerged in the water for up to half an hour.Mr Law's Volvo had skidded around a corner and into the ditch after speeding through Wick St Lawrence.Coroner Brian Whitehouse adjourned an inquest into Mr Law's death on Tuesday so an investigation could take place into the 34-year-old's treatment at the hospital.Speaking on behalf of Mr Law's family at an inquest at Flax Bourton Coroners Court, PC Mark Phillips said: "The family has concerns with the recovery Darren made at the hospital."When he first arrived he was very poorly and was in the intensive treatment unit. The treatment he received was such that he was starting to make a recovery."Within a number of days he was moved to a more general ward where his recovery went into decline. He was moved back to the intensive treatment unit. It was too late and he died within 24 hours."The inquest heard how Mr Law was travelling along Wick Road before his car skidded across the wet surface into a ditch near Icleton Farm on October 19 last year. He died on October 30.He was driving a green Volvo and was travelling behind his friend and colleague Darren Davis, who was driving a white Nissan Skyline. Mr Law, of East Clevedon Triangle, Clevedon, worked at Mendip Caravan Centre in Hewish.Onlookers said it appeared the two cars were racing and a police investigation said if Mr Law had been travelling at the 40mph speed limit, he would not have ended up in the ditch.
