CARS have been nose diving off roads in some of the most severe weather to hit Somerset in decades.

Following heavy snow fall on Friday, emergency services have been called out to several crashes across Weston and surrounding areas.

A lorry crashed into the outer barrier on the M5 on Saturday morning, a Jaguar car went into a ditch at the side of Somerset Avenue on Saturday evening and another vehicle crashed off the road in East Brent in the early hours of the morning.

A sheet of black ice near the roundabout to Locking claimed a number of victims on Saturday with minor prangs.

Our picture shows the narrow escape that a family had on Friday morning when they tried to get down Totterdown Lane in Weston.

In the attempt to avoid a vehicle coming up the road, the car went towards the fence and the photo shows the results.
