Crews out to clear rubbish backlog

WASTE and collection crews have been working hard to catch up on waste and recycling rounds according to North Somerset Council.
The collections were disrupted over the Christmas period due to the extreme weather and crews working for waste contractor, May Gurney, have been out catching up with the backlog of rubbish piling up on the district’s streets.
Residents are advised to leave out all waste and recycling that has not yet been collected and asked to sort recyclable materials into carrier bags to help speed up collections.
On Tuesday, 88 per cent of collections were completed in Yatton, Congresbury, Claverham and Cleeve areas.
Anyone whose property has been missed is asked to still leave containers out for collection.
On Wednesday, an additional nine collection vehicles and 23 crew members to help clear the backlog. Crews also worked through the night to empty the vehicles ready to begin their rounds today.
Also on Wednesday, 147 tonnes of recycling was collected, which is about 76 per cent more than normal.
