Douglas Anscombe, of Shrubbery Walk, was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on Monday after pleading guilty to stealing £21,553.64 from Saxons Estate Agents.
Anscombe, aged 32, stole the money while working as a sales negotiator.
The role allowed him to authorise payments without referring them to the company’s director.
He had been an employee at the company since 2011 and made payments into his own bank account from July to September last year.
Anscombe then handed in his notice in September and started his own letting agency Lets Made Simple in the Boulevard.
He was arrested on December 5 last year and was charged with theft by an employee. Anscombe admitted his guilt during the police interview.
He was sentenced this week to a six-month suspended sentence, 300 hours of unpaid community work, a six-month curfew and a two-year exclusion from licensed premises.
