A man who shattered another man’s jaw with a single punch in a row over littering has been given a suspended sentence and ordered to pay £2,000 in compensation to his victim.
Joshua Scrivens, of Hapsburg Close in Weston-super-Mare, believed he saw his victim Stephen Amesbury dropping rubbish on the street in Weston town centre in the early hours of March 13.
Scrivens alerted nearby police officers but they said they could not do anything, as they had not witnessed the incident.
Shortly after, 26-year-old Scrivens saw Mr Amesbury on the corner of Oxford Street and it was there he shattered his jaw with a single punch.
Mr Amesbury was left spitting his teeth out on the street and later had to have five teeth removed and 16 screws placed into his jaw.
He now speaks with a slur and is still waiting for his jaw to become stable enough for a final operation.
Scrivens pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent at a hearing at North Somerset Courthouse in September.
He appeared at Bristol Crown Court last week for sentencing and was given eight months in prison, suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid community work and given a curfew from 8pm to 6am for three months.
Scrivens was also ordered to pay £2,000 in compensation to the victim, at a rate of £200 per month.
He will also pay a £100 victim surcharge and £175 prosecution costs.
