A nightclub doorman was attacked by a late-night drinker who had consumed so much alcohol he could not remember the incident.

Murray Crompton, aged 36, admitted punching Michael Loud outside Eternity bar in Beach Road, Weston, after the bouncer had asked him to leave.

Appearing at North Somerset Courthouse on June 19, Crompton, of Regent Street, Weston, admitted one charge of assaulting Mr Loud by beating and another of using threatening and abusive language.

Mike Hartnell, prosecuting, said Mr Loud had intervened after seeing Crompton in an argument with a woman on April 21. Mr Loud ensured Crompton left the bar but minutes later the defendant returned holding what the bouncer thought was a key. CCTV footage was inconclusive.

Mr Hartnell said: “He saw Crompton with something in his fingers and tried to back away.”

The court was told Mr Loud was knocked to the floor by a punch from Crompton.

He said: “Crompton tried to punch him twice more before colleagues came to Mr Loud’s aid.”

Mr Hartnell said the action was unprovoked as Mr Loud was only doing his job when he escorted Crompton out of the Beach Road bar.

Crompton was drunk at the time and said he could not remember any of the incident, but having viewed CCTV footage admitted he was responsible.

Owen Strickland, defending, said: “Crompton accepts he was there and he had too much to drink. He can’t remember anything of it but doesn’t accept he had keys as he didn’t drive there.”

Crompton received a two-month curfew and was ordered to pay 150 compensation and 85 costs.
