A 20-YEAR-OLD had a ‘violent’ outburst and spat at police during a confrontation with officers.

David Gahame, of The Drive, Weston, said he felt aggressive because he had an argument with someone before heading into town.

The 20-year-old was found with a bloodied face and a half-full bottle of vodka in Regent Street on March 31.

When officers approached him to check on his welfare he started to become physically and verbally abusive.

The painter and decorator pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause or provoke fear of violence.

He appeared before magistrates at North Somerset Courthouse in St Georges, where chair of the bench Trevor Morgan told him he had committed an ‘unpleasant’ crime.

The court heard how Gahame started kicking out at PC Rudden and special constable Smith during the outburst, which continued once he had been taken to Weston Police Station.

While there he spat several times at officers, swore at them and became increasingly violent during the confrontation.

He had to be restrained both in town, where a doorman had to help officers, and later on the floor of his cell.

While in town he also headbutted the shutters at the Marks & Spencer store in High Street.

The court heard on Monday how he had admitted afterwards that he could not remember the incident, but said his behaviour was ‘unacceptable’.

He told magistrates: “It ain’t normal is it?”

Gahame was handed a six-month community order with three month curfew requirement between 7pm-7am daily. He was also ordered to pay 85 costs.
