A ‘SELF-CONFESSED heroin addict’ has been kept behind bars ahead of being sentenced for dealing ‘thousands of pounds’ of class A drugs in Weston-super-Mare.

Martyn Cox, aged 40 and of Hambledon Road, was arrested on Friday following a drugs raid.

At 4.15pm on Friday, an off-duty police officer reported two men behaving strangely in Locking Road.

Uniformed officers were dispatched to the scene, and a man was detained nearby and a second was later arrested in the Queensway in Worle.

Following these arrests, officers searched Cox’s flat with sniffer dogs and seized 350 wraps of class A drugs, cash and drugs paraphernalia. Another man was also arrested at the house.

Chief Inspector Tina Robinson said: “These arrests go to show how committed my officers are to keeping drugs off the streets of Weston.”

Cox pleaded guilty to four charges of supplying drugs at a hearing at North Somerset Courthouse on Monday.

The three other men, aged 19, 20 and 35, were later released on police bail.

Cox admitted supplying diamorphine and cocaine, as well as possession with intent to supply cocaine and diamorphine.

Laura Opie, prosecuting, said: “He is a self-confessed heroin addict. He began to shake immediately upon seeing the police and told them where they could find the drugs.

“Drug tests were conducted on the black and white wraps found at the flat, which were found to be heroin and cocaine. The wraps are worth about £10 each, so the drugs seized were worth thousands of pounds.”

Cox has been committed for sentence at Bristol Crown Court on November 2 and has been remanded in custody until the hearing.
