A former Weston-super-Mare man accused of carrying out a terror attack has pleaded not guilty to murder and attempted murder.

Darren Osborne, aged 48, allegedly drove into Akram Ali and nine other people on a crowded pavement in Finsbury Park in north London on June 19.

The area was busy with Muslim worshippers at the time, and Osborne is charged with the murder of Mr Ali, aged 51.

The charges also state he attempted to murder ‘persons at the junction of Seven Sisters Road and Whadcoat Street, London’.

Osborne, who now lives in Glyn Rhosyn, Cardiff, appeared at the Old Bailey via video link from Belmarsh jail yesterday (Thursday).

He was wearing a red T-shirt, and spoke only to confirm his identity and enter not guilty pleas.

He was remanded in custody, ahead of his trial on January 22 at Woolwich Crown Court.
