A Yatton landowner has been jailed for the second time for refusing to move his caravans.

George Montgomery, who is in his 50s, has been locked in a legal dispute with North Somerset Council since January 2013 for refusing to move his caravan off hardstanding in Stowey Road.

He refused to comply with an enforcement notice – which led to a £10,000 fine – and defied court orders put in place by magistrates to try to force him to act.

Last year he added a second to the agricultural plot, encouraging the council to seek further legal punishment.

A council spokesman said: “Montgomery has continued to ignore the order and in October brought a second static caravan onto the land.

“On January 16, at Bristol Magistrates Court, he was found guilty of failing to comply with the order and given a three-month prison sentence. He was also ordered to pay costs of £1,445.”
