A MAN who attacked his cousin’s ex-girlfriend while he was on his stag do has been handed a restraining order.

Samuel Glassey, aged 25, appeared at North Somerset Courthouse for sentencing last Thursday after pleading guilty to assault by beating at an earlier hearing.

Magistrates had been told that Glassey and his cousin Benjamin Fear attacked Vickie Winters outside the Tavern Inn the Town pub on September 11.

Glassey, of Dartmouth Close, kicked Ms Winters’ abdomen and Fear slapped her during the assault.

At an earlier hearing Glassey had told magistrates that he used to have a drink and drug problem and had managed to ‘get to grips’ with his addiction – but pleaded with them to forbid him from going to pubs and clubs in the town.

He said: “I don’t want to drink any more. I need to be banned from every pub and club in Weston and the surrounding area – it is the only way.”

But magistrates instead imposed a 12-month restraining order on Glassey so he can’t contact Ms Winters.

He was also given a community order, a six-week curfew and was ordered to pay costs of 85.

Fear, aged 22 of Dunster Crescent, pleaded guilty to assault by beating in November and was sentenced to a two-month community order with a seven-week curfew and a two-year restraining order.
