A WESTON man has been jailed for more than a year after stealing jewellery, clothes and a charity box which was raising cash for British soldiers.

David Gilpin of Wilson Gardens pleaded guilty on Monday at Bristol Crown Court to a burglary charge after taking the items from a store in the North Worle Shopping Centre.

The incident occurred on January 12 where 25-year-old Gilpin caused thousands of pounds worth of damage and stole a Help For Heroes box which contained £25.

He was sentenced to 13 months in prison and ordered to pay an £85 victim surcharge.
