A WESTON man has been fined 415, after being caught smoking in a company vehicle.

Barry Carter, of Upper Kewstoke Road, was found guilty of breaching the smoking ban in a delivery van owned by his former employees, Chalmer Bros Ltd of Wells, after he was seen smoking in it in August of last year.

Mendip District Council investigated the incident, and was told that staff at the firm had been informed not to smoke in the car, which led them to serve a fixed penalty notice to Carter.

After the fine remained unpaid, Carter was prosecuted at Frome Magistrates Court, where he was fined 200, and told to pay additional costs of 200 and a 15 victim surcharge.
