A TEENAGER wept in the dock at North Somerset Youth Court this morning as he was charged with the murder of Weston family man Mark Roberts.

Mr Roberts died in hospital after suffering head injuries in what police have described as an ‘unprovoked assault’ in Baildon Road on the Bournville estate on Saturday night.

A 17-year-old – who cannot be named because he is under 18 – appeared at the courthouse in St Georges this morning (Tuesday).

The youth faces a single charge of murder, but has yet to give any indication of a plea.

He was dressed in a blue hooded top and tracksuit bottoms, and was remanded in custody until his next appearance at Bristol Crown Court on Thursday.

Mr Roberts’ partner Zara Powell and friends were in the court building but were not permitted to sit in on the hearing, because of the defendant’s young age.

Police are still appealing for further witnesses to the incident to come forward, and can be contacted via 101.

Friends of Mr Roberts have laid bouquets in Baildon Road over the past few days, and a number have left online tributes too.
