A WESTON man defrauded his bookmaker employer by falsifying winning betting slips AFTER sporting events had finished, a court has heard.

Daniel Levy, of Hill Road, appeared at North Somerset Courthouse last week to be sentenced for a scam which netted him in excess of £1,000.

The 24-year-old was employed by Coral Bookmakers in Waterloo Street, and claimed a string of winning bets he had falsified in May and June last year.

The court was told how Levy filled out betting slips himself after learning the results of sporting fixtures, before cashing in his ‘winnings’.

In total, he made 20 such transactions, and claimed £1,026 before he was caught.

During last week’s hearing, Levy pleaded guilty to a single count of fraud, and after for other similar offences to be taken into consideration by the bench.

Magistrates ordered him to pay back the full £1,206, as well as paying £85 in court costs.

Levy was also made subject to a 12-month community order, and ordered to carry out 160 hours of unpaid community work.
