A WESTON prisoner who escaped from a secure hospital has been jailed.

Luke Sparks, aged 21, was sentenced to 30 months in prison on Friday at Ipswich Crown Court.

Sparks, originally from Brue Close in Weston, triggered a police manhunt in October last year when he escaped from St John’s House in Palgrave, Norfolk. He was found 48 hours later in Bristol.

He has been detained under the Mental Health Act since 2008 after committing a serious assault in Taunton, according to a Suffolk Constabulary spokesman.

A 22-year-old woman from the area was also jailed this week for helping him escape.
