A WOMAN required eight metal stitches to her head after being pushed by her partner.

Philip Tidman admitted one count of assault causing actual bodily harm and was sentenced at North Somerset Courthouse on July 11.

Jane Cooper, prosecuting, said victim Gemma Marshall and the 36-year-old defendant were in a long-term relationship when the incident occurred.

A neighbour overheard a row in Selworthy Road, on the Bournville estate, between the couple and came to Miss Marshall’s aid on May 14.

Ms Cooper said Tidman pushed Miss Marshall out the house in an attempt to diffuse the argument.

However when Miss Marshall took sanctuary at the neighbour’s house, Tidman followed her and grabbed her hair.

When he pushed her away she tripped and fell, hitting her head.

It left Miss Marshall will a two-inch open wound that needed hospital treatment.

Sue Cameron, defending, said: “This was caused recklessly, not intentionally.

“There was an argument and a degree of provocation.”

Tidman, of no fixed abode, was handed a community order and must carry out 150 hours of unpaid community work. He must also pay £250 to Miss Marshall in compensation as well as £80 costs and a £60 victim surcharge. A one-year non-molestation order was also handed to Tidman last week.
