TWO men were arrested on suspicion of the theft of two brass crosses which were stolen from a church.

The men, aged 25 and 38, were arrested on April 24 on suspicion of the theft of the items, which were stolen from St Andrew’s Church in Burnham in the past two weeks.

They were released on police bail the following day and the two crosses were recovered from Morland pond in Highbridge.

PC Adrian Jones said: “This is really good news for the community. The recovery of these irreplaceable pieces of history was helped by a local resident who gave me the information and the crosses can now be returned to their rightful place.”
