Crowds enjoy thrilling weekend of racing in Brean

An exciting weekend of rally driving hit Brean as hundreds of spectators enjoyed two days of racing.

The 22nd Brean Stages Rally saw 79 drivers hurtle around the Brean Leisure Park track, in Coast Road, with 12 stages providing 52 miles of competitive rallying.

Lancashire team Aaron Newby, with co-driver Andrew Leech, who were seeded first in their award-winning TEG Motorsport Subaru Impreza, won the race overall for the second year in a row, finishing with a time of one hour, three minutes and 15 seconds.

Jim Munden and Nick Eccles, also driving a Subaru Impreza, came second.

Five-time Brean winners, husband and wife team Steve and Yvonne Furzeland, finished fourth in class.

One remarkable competitor was disabled driver Barry Pavey, of Bridgwater, who drives his Ford Escort rally car with prosthetic lower limbs and came 48th overall.
