A DAY CARE centre for the elderly which is based at a Weston theatre looks set to move.Charity Brunelcare has run a service at The Blakehay for several years where the elderly can meet, socialise and have a meal. But managers of the Weston Town Council owned theatre say they raised questions about the type of care provided to the elderly. Theatre manager Jack Edgar said: "We had always been under the impression that what was being provided was a drop in lunch centre for senior citizens but it's apparently a day care centre."We did consider that that would alter the type of clients looked after."We flagged up the health and safety. We have not asked anyone to leave. We had discussions with North Somerset Council and Brunel about these issues and we were expecting them to come back with their observations."Brunelcare runs The Blakehay Day Centre on behalf of North Somerset Council.Simon Emery, a Brunelcare spokesman, said: "We think it is appropriate to find another venue other than The Blakehay."Our greatest concern is the well-being of the service users. "The centre is still running at The Blakehay. There is no timescale for the move."A statement from Weston Town Council leader Robert Payne said he and the town council support the day care service. It adds: "It would therefore be highly regrettable if this service were to cease and The Blakehay remains available to Brunelcare. "But if Brunelcare feels that The Blakehay is not a suitable venue, and it decides to move to alternative premises elsewhere, I would hope that the town council will continue to support it in some other way.
