THE first 'no cold calling zone' in North Somerset has been launched in Weston.Residents in several town centre streets are clubbing together to ban uninvited salesmen, religious callers and potential conmen from their doors. Those ignoring notices due to go up this week in Camden Terrace, George Street, Little George Street, Swiss Road, Trevelyan Road, Gordon Road, Milburn Road and Beaufort Road could face prosecution for trespass.A second phase of streets stretching as far as Ashcombe Road are due to be covered by November.Legal action would be taken by North Somerset Trading Standards which is backing the scheme being led by Weston Mead Residents' Association.Experiments in other areas show that such schemes virtually eradicate uninvited callers.Anyone interested in running the scheme elsewhere should call trading standards on 01275 888634.
