PEOPLE are being urged to have their say on fresh plans to construct a cycle link from Flax Bourton to Nailsea.Charity Sustrans will shortly apply for planning permission to North Somerset Council to build a new section of the National Cycle Network in the district. The Flax Bourton Greenway will link Long Ashton to Backwell and Nailsea via Backwell Bow, creating access between the villages at Flax Bourton. The routes will generally follow the line of the existing railway and benefit local communities by encouraging people to walk or cycle rather than using the car.The cycleway will also improve access through the countryside and encourage people to incorporate exercise in their daily life. Now North Somerset Council's sustainable travel team is asking for residents' views on the proposals ahead of the application being submitted.A North Somerset Council spokesman said: "The team would like to hear people's views about the proposal."We want to know whether people would use the path to keep fit and healthy at weekends, for the school run or to commute along it to avoid the bypass."We also want to find out whether there are changes that could be made to the proposals to make them better."The latest scheme comes after a previous plan to create a cycle link from Backwell to Nailsea over green belt land was withdrawn. The National Cycle Network is a network of safe and attractive routes for cyclists and pedestrians and is designed to pass through or close to all major cities, towns and villages throughout the UK.Currently there are more than 10,000 miles of open routes. Information about the Flax Bourton Greenway can be found at www.n-somerset.gov.uk/cycling and comments may be e-mailed to sustainable.travel@n-somerset.gov.ukAlternatively, the drawings will be displayed at Nailsea Library until February 23.Written comments can be sent to the Sustainable Travel Team, North Somerset Council, Somerset House, Oxford Street, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1TG.
