Harbour porpoise found in the rocks

A harbour porpoise was found among the rocks near Birnbeck Pier yesterday morning by a passer-by.

A mother and son - out walking their dog - found the dead sea mammal trapped among the sharp rocks near the old pier.

The young boy climbed down to play Pokemon Go and noticed something near the rocks.

The mother said: “It was very surreal. We could not believe it, it just looked too perfect. At first I thought it was a joke.”

She described the animal as being ‘half a metre long.’

The Marine Conservation Society were able to identify the creature as a harbour porpoise. They are native to cold and sub-polar temperatures in the northern hempisphere.
