Events were held in Weston-super-Mare for deaf awareness week.
The support available to deaf people, and the work organisations do, was highlighted last week.
The week’s events started with a launch in the Sovereign Shopping Centre, where North Somerset Council’s new chairman David Jolley spent time getting to know members of the deaf community.
The events included a ‘meet the services’ day at the Town Hall, where various organisations showcased their services and offered free hearing checks.
Hearing Dogs For The Deaf attended, and mayor Jos Holder met some of its dogs.
Hearing Dogs is one of the charities Cllr Holder has been supporting throughout her mayoral year.
Schoolchildren were also given sign language lessons, with storytellers and interpreters visiting Uphill, Ashcombe, Worle Village and Mendip Green primary schools.
