A new life-saving machine will be installed in a Somerset village.

A community defibrillator will be installed in West Huntspill, on The Crossways Inn in Withy Road.

West Huntspill Parish Council decided to investigate the possibility of a defibrillator following the rise in heart-related health issues in the UK.

The device was bought from the British Heart Foundation charity, along with weather-proof and heated cabinet to house it.

The pub, on the A38, has been described by the council as a ‘focal point’ of the village, meaning many people can easily access the equipment in an emergency.

A parish council spokesman said: “Landlord Steve Dean went the extra stride and
paid for alterations to provide an electrical source for
the cabinet’s power requirements.

“Nothing was too much trouble for Steve and Pete Buller of MB Electrics, in their efforts to help our community.”
