POLICE are appealing for information after ‘significant’ damage was caused to partially-built houses in Weston during an arson attack.

Firefighters and police were called to the Haywood Village development just before 10.30pm last Thursday.

When crews arrived on the scene they found a row of eight terraced properties with three on fire.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service said the fire is believed to have been started ‘deliberately’.

A spokesman from the fire service said: “The fire caused significant damage to the properties which had been built to the first-floor (level).”

Police have launched an appeal and the site’s developer Persimmon Homes has said it is ‘working closely’ with investigators.

A spokesman from Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: “On-site security staff spotted three youths making off from the area.”

Managing director of Persimmon Homes Steve Roche said: “An investigation is taking place and we are working closely with the local authorities involved.”

Anyone with information should contact police online via or by calling 101 quoting crime reference number 61759/15.
