A NORTH Somerset parish council is inviting its villagers to have their say on how they would like future development to happen in their area.

Yatton Parish Council has started putting together a neighbourhood plan, which has legal weight and gives communities the chance to specify how and where they would like new homes to be built in their area.

A neighbourhood plan is subject to a lengthy consultation process and must be approved by the majority of villagers at a referendum if it is to be adopted.

However, Yatton Parish Council is now seeking the views of residents concerning Yatton’s future in an attempt to get the consultation process underway.

A parish council statement said: “The Yatton neighbourhood plan will be part of the statutory development plan for the area (and) this statutory status gives the neighbourhood plan far more weight than some other local documents.”
