A dedicated group of Weston volunteers has been presented with an award for its fundraising efforts.

The Diabetes UK Weston group received the accolade at the charity’s South West Inspire Awards.

Members have raised £93,000 over 15 years, including £3,000 last year.

The volunteers also provide support and advice for people with diabetes and raise awareness about the condition.

Group chairman Ann Barrett, said: “We are honoured to receive this award. It is very important to us to contribute to diabetes research and to ensure people in Weston, especially those affected by diabetes, are aware there is support available and hope for the future.”

Annika Palmer, from Diabetes UK, said: “To continue to make such significant donations over such a long period and in difficult times is testament to their hard work and dedication to our charity.”
