A WOMAN with diabetes was spared a driving ban for speeding after she pleaded that she needed her car to get treatment.

Roxanne Hardy, aged 22, of Grove Park Road in Weston, admitted to speeding through Congresbury soon after midnight on April 2. Police recorded the woman driving at 55mph past Morgans newsagents on the A370, 25mph above the 30mph speed limit.

At North Somerset Courthouse in St Georges on Friday, Hardy, who already has three points on her licence, pleaded with magistrates not to ban her from driving.

She said she needed her car to get weekly out-of-town treatment for her diabetic condition.

Magistrates put six points on her licence, meaning she is now three points away from 12, which results in an automatic disqualification.

She was also fined £65 and ordered to pay costs of £35, plus a £15 victim surcharge.
