A DIAMOND couple who got engaged just one week after they met have 60 reasons to celebrate - as today marks six decades to the day since they got hitched.
Roy and Enid Edwards, aged 81 and 80 respectively, met in 1952 after Enid moved from the West Midlands.
The couple, of Porlock Close on Weston’s Coronation estate, say the secret to their union’s longevity is ‘a long garden’ as well as maintaining healthy separate interests.
Roy, who still plays skittles for Weston-based team the Nutters used to work at the town’s gas works and was pictured in the Weston Mercury & Somersetshire Herald when the factory closed for the last time.
Their daughter Sue Matthews said: “They have a sense of humour and they are both in love.
“They were only going out for a matter of days when they got engaged.”
The couple are set to celebrate their anniversary with a family meal with their daughter, grandson and son-in-law.
