A SANDCASTLE building competition will be held at Weston beach this summer with prizes for the best entries.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) will host the event on June 16 with competitors asked to produce creations based on its architectural, Olympic or jubilee themes.

Competence with a bucket and spade is not essential though as there are three categories – professional, family and people’s choice award. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges, including Weston MP John Penrose.

And the prizes on offer include a family ticket to this year’s Great Western Lego Show, a £75 Grand Pier voucher and beer from Bristol Beer Factory.

The competition will be one of several held nationwide by RIBA this summer and competitors can register for free from noon on the day or in advance at www.lovearchitecture.org
